ssssssssssABOUT THE PATSHM WEBSITE:
sssssssThe Patshm (Psychology
and the Sharemarket) website is the public face
of Patshm Publishing and Patshm Research, and deals with the sale
of books and sharemarket research enquiries. The
driving force behind Patshm Research Ltd is Warwick
Gibson, A New Zealand writer who lives in Taranaki. Warwick has been buying and selling shares on
the Australian and New Zealand sharemarkets since
1986. A maths teacher through the nineties, he is
now in his fifties and specialises in designing sharemarket systems. He has recently completed a Masters degree in Guidance, and published Starfire Scourge, the first in a science-fiction work called the Prometheus trilogy.
sssssssFor those wanting to know more about Starfire Scourge, click on the link above. For those wanting to know more about sharemarket systems, two things underpin all sharemarket endeavours, and these are discussed below.
sssssssFirstly, it
is not possible to make long-term average returns
of even 20% from sharemarkets by holding shares
longterm. However, if investors are going to trade
more often, and (possibly, depending on country
and circumstances) pay tax, then returns per annum
need to be very good indeed if investors are to
be left with a reasonable amount for themselves.
The system discussed in the book “Sharemarket Methods for the 2009-2012 Recovery” averaged over 60% a year in the similar 2004-2006 recovery period,
from the largest Australian shares, and much more for the same system on smaller companies, or the super-systems discussed in the book.
sssssssSecondly, it
is absolutely not conducive to mental health to
be watching shareprices on a computer screen every
day, whether for five minutes or five hours. All
systems designed by Patshm Research include as a
cornerstone principle that share investments must
be looked at once a month only, and ignored for
the rest of the time (while getting on with a worthwhile
life).
sssssss
In many ways, Warwick's sharemarket books are an attempt to make available
to people ideas and systems he did not have
when he started out. The “investment industry”
does not provide these ideas or systems, and if
the long voyage to investment success (within a
balanced lifestyle) can be shortened for some people,
that would be a heartwarming outcome indeed.
sssssssFinally, Patshm
Research supports the idea that investments
are a lifetime endeavour, not a ‘get rich
quick’ scheme. Investments are one part of
a balanced life; a life that includes regular exercise,
mental stimulation, patting cats, understanding
why we do things, not showing off, smiling at others,
developing social skills, people time, emotional
growth, financial growth, holidays, early retirement,
and brushing one’s teeth!
