Taranaki Car Club History

Alan first joined the Taranaki Car Club approximately 45 years ago where he competed in rally and mostly hillclimbs and sprints for approximately 15 years. He started flag marshalling at about same time. He marshaled at Ardemore the year Sterling Moss raced in New Zealand in the Lycoming Special. Marshalling was also done at Marehou Street circuit in Christchurch during CMT days (Compulsory Military Training). Levin Motor races were marshalled. Lady Wigram Trophy races. Wanganuis' round the houses both on the present circuit and the old one. Plus the Matarawa circuit and the Tikorangi Motor cycle circuit. In New Plymouth, the old Bell Block Airport circuit. Alan also raced in a car meeting at Ohakea in a standard 10. Also test drove Formula Junior at Ohakea on car club test day.

Alan has also had a period where he was involved with Speedway. This was at the old Waiwaikiho Speedway where his old employers W R Philips are located.

Alan had a family and focused on his career in panelbeating. He came back to Car racing in 2002 when he and his son John brought an old Toyota Startlet and did it up. The image below shows you Alan working on the car at our previous home.
