Hogwartz Backpacker Hostel is
centrally located on Rattray Street just up from the famous Speight’s
Brewery and no more than five minutes’ walk from the very heart of Dunedin,
the Octagon. Right across from St. Joseph’s Cathedral, the impressive blue
stone building of Hogwartz was the Catholic Bishop’s Residence for over 130
years before it was sold and turned into a hostel. Well-established trees and
bushes shelter Hogwartz from the main street while a small lane at the back of
the hostel (Bishops Road) offers plenty of free car parking.
Your Kiwi/Swiss
hosts Gilbert and Maja are well-travelled internationally as well as in NZ and
therefore know the importance of creating that ‘home away from home’ kind of
feeling for their guests. Their two lively Jack Russell Terriers add to the
homely feel of the place. However, the two dogs are not too keen on “little
people” which is why Hogwartz is not recommended for families with children.
And here are some things you can expect at Hogwartz: clean
facilities; spacious rooms - many with great views and lots of sunshine; fully
made-up beds; no bunks; no bus crowds; cosy log fire on cold days and nights;
heaters in all rooms; a piano for those who can play; book exchange;
fast
internet - wi-fi (Zenbu); BBQ; extensive recycling facilities; bike storage; pick-ups from bus
terminal (when available); tour & accommodation bookings; and a friendly welcome
from people with a sense of humour!
We are looking forward to meeting you!
