The Pitlane Slot Car Club races soft bodied cars on two tracks.
The Fairfield track (below) was built in 1996. 4 lanes of 30 metres with 100mm lane centres.
Jeff's track (previously Green Island track) was modified to it's present
configuration in 1970.
Jeff's track will also be used for Scalextrix type cars,
racing will begin once new lap counters are installed.

The Green Island Track (below) was originally built about 1965
and modified to suit a single garage in 1970.
6 seconds per lap is a very good time on either track.

The original "Pitlane" track was housed in the basement of Graeme & Jan Mitchell's house.
Thanks to Peter Swale for these reminders of the old days.
The track survived the move to the Ferrum Engineering rooms but has since been broken up.
The section immediately in front of the drivers was part of an old Otago Model Engineering track, the grove was formed from square section brass and had a 75mm lane centre. The remainder of the track was routed with a centre of 90mm. The narrow section made racing Grand Prix cars particularly exciting.
