Pitlane Slot Car Club

We race 1/32nd scale slot cars on two tracks.
For club night racing we use three types of cars
(Grand Prix, Sports and Saloons) on a rotating basis.
A
ll cars are powered by "16D" type or Falcon motors.
We now have a Scalextric track but have not begun organised racing as yet.

Club members also participate at South Island and national level using 1/32nd scale cars complying with NZSCA rules (using 16D, Group 12/15 or Strap motors depending on class).

From time to time members also race 1/24th scale cars at national meetings.

The club welcomes visitors and new members. Come along and see what we do. There is no need to have your own cars or controller, the club has some available for use while you decide if this is your thing. As we race on two tracks please make contact by phone or email prior to visiting.
Currently all race meetings are on alternating Monday nights.
There are practise nights on the other Monday nights and on Thursday nights (all at Fairfield clubrooms).

The club sources the parts required for our cars.
We cannot supply parts for Scaletrix, Ninco, Fly type cars or for HO scale slotcars.

The club uses a unique method of allocating drivers to races. I believe the scheme was devised back in the early 1960s by Cliff James with help from the local university's maths department.
The aim was to have all racers race each other during the race series. Race one has racers 1,2,5 and 7, race two 2,3,5,8 and so own, when the number for lane 4 exceeds the number of racers then the number of racers is subtracted from the number for lane 4. Each race series has the same number of runs as the number of drivers. By the time the series is complete all drivers will have had a run on each lane and, with the right numbers, a run against all the drivers present.
While the luck of the draw can see a variable range of skills racing in each run, the scheme works well for us. Fast drivers need to plan their passing moves, slow drivers get a chance to see where they are losing time. It is not unusual to see a "slower" driver latch onto a fast driver when being lapped and put in some hot laps. We feel that this scheme raises the driving skills of a new driver faster than if we raced with the usual tiered race schemes.

Using this scheme we race two series per race night for differing types of cars on rotation.
A win gains 5 points, second place 3, third 2 and fourth 1.
These points are used to give the night and annual championship positions.
While some racers can get a bit serious the emphasis is to have enjoyable racing.
One night will use GPs and Sports, the next Saloons and GPs, then Sports and Saloons.
Race nights are held fortnightly alternating between the two tracks.
