About me

spinning with my pupils
Welcome to my Website!

Knitting has been a passion of mine for many years. It was my mother, who initially taught me to knit and my aunty, who encouraged me to spin. From these few basic skills I went through a never ending process of learning to reach the level of experience and quality, that I have now. I enjoy passing  this knowledge onto other people through teaching both hand and machine knitting, spinning and crochet.

Retail business occupied 10 years of my life, designing and manufacturing knitwear. I now work from home, spinning, dyeing, crocheting  and knitting unique garments. I really  enjoy breeding my sheep, selecting the wool to obtain the best quality and working all my way through to the finished garment. Highlights of my woolcraft career were winning the Woolsection of the Hokonui-Fashion-Design-Award and the Masterton Golden Shears plus numerous merit awards for my creations.

With 7 grandchildren, aged from 3 -13 years to knit for, I have plenty of design ideas, skill and knowledge to create wonderfull childrens garments. See my Garment Picture Gallery for some examples.

With ponchos being the latest winter fashion statements this year,  I have designed many different styles for both children and adults. The two examples seen on the left are both knitted from commercial yarn, but I have hand-spun, hand-dyed ponchos as well.

Also seen on the left are some of my hats and scarves which I have made from an extensive range of yarn, threads, wool, mohair, possum, samoyed-dog fibre and glitze yarns etc. Very popular with tourists as well as  locals are designer yarns and mohair. Handspun garments including sherpa hats are favourite with the guys  old and young.

You can meet me on the Creative Queenstown Art & Craft market most Saturdays, where I also sell my knitwear. If travelling around N.Z., please call and say hello, as I enjoy meeting people, especially fellow spinners and knitters. You can also purchase raw fleece or carded wool from my own flock.  If you're looking  for Homestay , B&B and  spinning /  knitting / crocheting lessons give me a call.

Ewe Welcome!
